Mr. E Comics

It has been a crazy week. Between regular work, getting ready for The Craft Retreat to open and life in general, I also worked on “Mr. E Comics.”

First off, I’d like to do a big thank you to David. This guy has been a better friend to me than I deserve. The moment I decide to venture out into film, he manages to get me a position doing wardrobe. When I panic about not knowing anything in the film industry, he sits me down for a lesson in all things film. When I stress about being the solo wardrobe person my first time on a set, he finds me a partner. When I discovered that working 70 hours on a set, 25 at work, helping host a baby shower and trying to sleep is next to impossible in a 6 day time span, he brings me energy drinks. And when I tried to set him up with some of my new film crew friends, he didn’t kill me. Oh wait, he doesn’t know that part yet. Oops.

Anyway, being on set was a blast. It’s hard to describe the friendly atmosphere of a film set. Total strangers hugged me, and not in a creepy way like the drunk guy who insisted I was his long lost childhood girlfriend. They welcomed me with open arms and recruited me for future projects. I am especially grateful to Mike and Ralph, the director and producer respectively, who had total faith in this film newbie and never once questioned my skills. Well, at least not to my face.

To use Ralph’s words, film and theatre are different beasts entirely. While theatre will always be my first love, I find myself leaning more towards film. With film, every day is different and exciting. Every take gives you another chance to get things right and to perfect a look. The atmosphere on the set changes depending on which cast is on that day. The best part is that film gives new crew members the chance to be involved. There were teenagers on set as young as 15 who were gaining experience for their future careers in film production. In each and every single person on set, you could see the passion. No one was burned out by the industry. No one was bored with the entire thing. Everyone felt a connection to the work, to the art and most importantly, to each other.

Be on the lookout for the series to premiere this summer! I will of course have a post on here to gloat about my involvement with this production and with what I’m sure will be an awesome final product.
